18th century Santos - San Roque (Also Saint Roch, or St. Rock)

Born in Montpellier, France before 1300 to a wealthy family.  He gave all his money to help the poor.  He cared for those with the plague subsequently becoming infected himself.  Rather than be a burden, he crawled into the woods to die.  He was found by a faithful dog who took bread from his master's table and brought it to St. Roque affecting his miraculous cure.

The patron saint of pilgrims, gravediggers, second-hand dealers and dogs.  He is invoked as protection against the plague, Cholera & other infectious diseases.  Identifying attributes are an open wound on the leg to which he points and a dog offering bread.
