Early Grain Painted Sewing Box 

 

Late 18th or early 19th century sewing box with a lift lid and two drawers and grain painted surface.  This box has a lot going for it - it is decorative but also very functional - the lid has a pin cushion, shallow well and lifts off for inside storage.  The drawers are tiered for easier access.  The bottom drawer has a pyramid front and both drawers have nice mushroom knobs.  The overall height is 15 1/2".  The box itself measures 11" wide by 11 1/2" tall.  The pin cushion is 5" and is sitting in 1" well.
