Overlapping Hearts Painting

 

Early watercolor of six overlapping hearts with six more hearts inset.  The result is a striking graphic image in the Pennsylvania Dutch style.  The painting is not signed on the front but a notation on the back gives a name and date of 1852.  The back cover is not period and we did not remove to see if supporting information in on the reverse of the painting itself.  The 10"x11 1/2" frame is old and could be period.  The painting is 6"x8" within the frame.

Notice the numbering outside the heart ring.  We have no idea what their purpose is.

It should be noted that the resolution of this closeup is distorting the numbers.  They are clear and crisp.
