Small Sampler - circa 1875

 

This is a small 8" by 6.75" sampler framed in a newer frame measuring 10.25" by 8.5".  The sampler features a house with solid stitche grass in front, two geese, a rabbit, a squirrel, angels, star, flowers and plants.    It is stitched to the backing.  Although not signed or dated it is later 19th century.  Samplers of this size were often made for "sampler books" which were an accumulation of examples of the young ladies work.
